Homeschooling for High School
Moste parents send their kids to regular school when it comes to high school. Why?
-
They see a value in professional, dynamic, experienced teachers at that higher level of education
-
They don't remember the knowledge they received from high school well enough to teach it to someone else
-
The stakes are higher and it parents feel intimidated
-
They want an accredited high school diploma
-
Students want to learn from someone (or many teachers) outside of their parents
-
Students want to be with their peers, often times really seeking that "big high school" experience
-
Sports, clubs, CTE, STEAM, electives, career development, college counseling, trips, and social experiences are offered in such big ways at regular school, it is hard to imagine this can be done well in homeschool
-
Trying to compete with regular school to offer an amazing high school experience is very expensive and time consuming
-
Parent/child relationships can get a little dicey during the teen years, especially if their students don't want to homeschool
In southern Oregon, we are doing an amazing job at providing the solutions to many of these concerns, but not all of them.
