MusiQuest

MusiQuest provides singular access to music making experiences for everyone.

MusiQuest is not one thing. Instead, it provides a substantial variety of different music
education pathways. We view our curriculum to be a confluence of essential streams of
music learning: Music Theory, Oral Tradition, Music and Society, and Music Experiences.
First, a MusiQuest user can pursue a formal and in-depth Music Theory curriculum,
from beginner to advanced levels. Based in the Western approach to music composition,
students learn everything from the language and practice of music notation, to the
expressive and practical use of musical elements, form, transposition, and more.
MusiQuest participants can also study subjects like the evolution of Jazz– from Ragtime
and Blues, to Cool and Free Jazz.
Not all music has been created in Western music theory principles. MusiQuest offers a
series of lessons and “Quests” that explore nonwestern approaches to music making,
especially the Oral Tradition. Students experience music making through this age-old
process of shared creation, mnemonics, and the ritual of call and response.
Music, too, never happens in a vacuum. Our Music and Society lessons and quests
provide historical, cultural, economic, technological, and personal context to music and
its creators.
And music, sometimes, can be just a brief and memorable experience. A moment in a
thunderstorm, or a traffic jam, can be recreated musically. Our MaxPax activities provide
instant music making around everyday sounds. Our various supplementary packs make
it easy to explore and play with MusiQuest for a moment, or for hours on end.
