Christine Dixon, Outschool Teacher (southern Oregon)

My name is Christine and I have taught students from infants to senior citizens in various subjects. I have a special affinity for video gaming, music, math, theater, and language.

On Outschool, I teach mostly social gaming clubs as I have found a need for learners to socialize while playing their favorite online games in a safe and supervised environment. In these classes, students build important social skills needed to have fun and stay safe in an online gaming environment. I am a strong believer that much learning happens through play! Like Maria Montessori said "play is the work of the child." These days much play happens in the virtual world, and as a lifelong gamer I choose to embrace it!

I have had a passion for teaching since I was in 3rd Grade and was selected for a program that allowed a few students to tutor 1st-grade students in reading and math. Since then, I have worked as a teacher/tutor my entire adult life. I have a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies with a concentration in music. I have received training in the Kodaly Method of teaching music to young learners. My instrument of choice is my voice. During the 2019-2020 school year, I taught a self-contained 5th-grade class at a private school. In March, I was forced to shift my class to online learning rather abruptly and quickly, but have adapted well.

I have a gentle and playful teaching style built on mutual respect. My favorite quote is from Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, "Careful the things you say. Children will listen. Careful the things you do. Children will see and learn."

When I am not teaching, I enjoy hiking and rediscovering the wonders of nature with my son.
